Jamilla Gins lost 9 members they went to the church. The water came upon the church, my father tried to save as many as he could, but they could not swim. We were calling their names, but the water took them under. After that, two of my aunts died. Erick Fortenberry was in the house my old lady and baby. The storm was so, it was day, and we ran out of the house and got into a ditch. Katrina just took our home and split it into. I thanked God for the blood of Jesus it passed over us. We love to share with others what we felt was the end. But by God love, grace and having faith, we lived. Elemaka Williams and all of her 4 children stayed with me. We had 12 hours of Katrina. People panic, I kept pleading the Blood of Jesus for all of us, and the people in the world. I had my last conversation on the cell phone with my brother. I told him that the eye was over us and it would be in Columbia in about 20 minutes that was the east time we heard from any family. I did not know where my grandchild was for weeks and we know God had protected them. My nephew was on top of the house when they came and hot his mother and family off the top. He told me, Aunt Cynthia saw bodies floating without a head even without arms, and they were gone. This was so devastating for a child that is 14 years old to witness even the one smaller then him saw the same thing. I saw people roofs falling off of houses, trees splitting in al kinds of ways, it seems like it would never end. Thank God for his love that he have for all of us.

We are the Brown Family, Houston, William, Antoiwine, Marcus, Staisa and Justice Brown. We are writing this letter to you to let you know how Hurricane Katrina affected us. It was by the Grace of God we made it threw. The kids were scared and crying. They just know the world was coming to an end, but we kept the faith.

I have no insurance and have contacted Fema, but they told me that it could take up to 30 days before I could get help. We are in great need of help now. We lost our washer and dryer that was on the back porch, ou
r bedroom set, comforters set, towels, clothes, shoes, living room set, refrigerator, freezer w/food, big screen TV, computer due to power surge, one shed collapsed we lost 2 riding mowers, kids go car, and bikes. We have done a lot of work ourselves; we bought a chainsaw to clean the yard, fixed the window and patio door.

If you can help us in any way, it will be greatly appreciated.

Thanking you in advance with God’s speed,

The Brown Family

I was really affected by Hurricane Katrina due to power surges going out and lost a 37” television, refrigerator, computer, microwave, VCR/DVD player. I lost some other appliances: cake mixer, jumbo toasters, blender, vegetable shredder and more. My carpet in my home got wet with my living room set due to the door being blown open. We were in the process of moving in the home yet got damaged. I had several comforter sets, walker, and toys damaged and clothes damaged. Also, I lost my father on the 8th of September from the storm. There were no lights or water for 2 weeks, he had high blood pressure and heart disease and it was a must for him to take his medicine everyday in order to survive. By no stores being open for at least a week, by the time he got his medicine it was too late. Also, he couldn’t be in heat and had to drink plenty of fluids.

Also we are behind on our bills due to this. We just moved and might have to move again because we are behind on the down payment as well as monthly rates. I wish I had something paid for. This is really a lot of stress on us and being that I’m expecting my second child, I had to pay my father’s funeral expenses totaling $6,657.00. We have applied for FEMA, but have not heard anything yet.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

We have been married for 13 years and we reside here on the Gulf Coast not far from the beach. My husband and I are hard workers and have been involved in the community and church ever since being here in the Gulfport/Biloxi area. We do not have any children, but have a wholesome of nieces and nephews that we take care of from time to time.

We left our home in the anticipation of Hurricane Katrina and when we came back we were very sadden at the condition of our resident. Water damage and wind damage was found throughout the house and we lost a lot of furniture. We also took in Ronnie’s sister family, Ms. Silver, during the aftermath period of the hurricane even until now. There has been a lot of stress and strains dealing with this situation, but I know God is able to help us overcome any obstacle. We are truly standing in the need and prayer and help and whatever you can do to help us, we appreciate it.

Respectfully,

I am 77 years old and live in Gulfport, MS. I graduated in Branda, MS in the 8th grade. I work at Memorial Hospital as a Radiology Assistant for 30 years until I had two knee replacements and became disable. I’m on disability and have high blood pressure and heart problems.

I have lived on the Gulf Coast since I was about 16 years old. My son and I went through Camille and all of the other storms, but nothing like Katrina. Katrina was 12 hours of destruction and distress. Trees were splitting in all directions and it just seems like the end. It is still depressing. I had roof leaking on the beds in two rooms and lights were out for weeks. Food was also lost.

God Bless
