THE GUARDIAN ANGEL ADOPTION PROGRAM
The
devastation and the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina has caused an evolution that
has spawned into a true humanitarian effort that is called, "The Guardian
Angel Adoption Program", a direct community life-line to assist those
people who need immediate help during the Katrina Aftermath in an ongoing
benevolent fashion. James D. Harris, Jr. is the author of the program and began
developing it during the Hurricane Aftermath after noticing the great gulf of
needs that were not being met in the community where the church edifice resides.
After working with the Red Cross personally, Minister Harris, Jr. saw a need
that was waiting to be met through immediate and positive action to link others
outside the area of devastation to those who were directly inside the eye of the
devastation. The Guardian Angel Adoption Program is a
family-to-family endeavor that pairs families who have been devastated by
Hurricane Katrina to get assistance from other families across the nation to
collectively meet the needs of the "adopted" family in need.
Usually, 5 or more families are paired with the one adopted family to spread the
responsibility of meeting the needs of the devastated with no one family bearing
the burden of the relief effort alone. We also work with any organization who
wishes to help those who need it most here on the Gulf Coast. To date
approximately 550 (+) families have been assisted in some way with more relief
coming in the days and months to come. Over 3,000 meals have been supplied to
many residents who needed these services.
A program outline and prospectus has been developed by Minister Harris, Jr. and
has been distributed to many organizations and churches around the country. The
response has been encouraging unto this point and now it seems to have created
an energy of it's own. The items being given to the families in need will be
collected by family name, so there will be no long lines of waiting for your
turn. The packages of relief have been pre-organized and readied for
distribution at the point of contact during the Healing and Helping Days
#1,#2 and #3, at the North Gulfport Church of Christ community
grounds @ 4525 34th Avenue, on the corner of Martin Luther King Drive & 34th
Avenue across from the Fire Station and beside the Isaiah Frederick's Community
Center.
Refreshments have been provided and the public are cordially invited to attend
this community outreach. Anyone who has a need of being helped and were
directly affected by Hurricane Katrina and live in our Gulf Coast Area are
invited to attend and become one of those who are being assisted after the
Hurricane to move into a point of normalcy in the days to come. Potential Donors
are asked to contact James D. Harris, Jr. for logistics and information leading
to assisting the families in need. All families involved are screened and
verified for the needs validity and placed into a relief database for future
follow-up and assistance management.
Here is the program outline:
(I) Purpose- We, the American People, a Nation under God declare today
that we are very concerned and moved concerning the welfare and the plight of
our fellow human beings here in our country and in the world as a whole. This is
an opportunity that we stand firm on to deliver assistance to our weary comrades
who have fallen victim to this devastating Hurricane called...Katrina. We will
bond as a secure network of caring and concerned providers with no other purpose
than to meet the needs of those who cannot meet their own needs due to the
aftermath of the storm. We will use a community by Nation effort to ensure that
all families needs are met by those who understand and will move as quickly as
possible to make these connections and relationships bond and mature into a
true... "Family-to-Family" effort. No middle-men involved, just
Families helping other Families and needs are being met directly and effectively
for the days and times to come. Everyone is blessed in the process! Do unto
others as you would have them do unto you!
(II) Mission- We seek to educate and share with our family,
friends and fellow Americans...
this unbiased knowledge, which will empower them and our selves to live a
*Life Without Debt*. As we become debt-free, we will reach back and free
other families so that others less fortunate than us can become freed of the
system that binds us and keeps us from a life of joy and peace. We will
accomplish this by working as a united group, who has established trust one with
another in the new millennium while promoting *good will* one with
another. By meeting the immediate physical and emotional needs of the youth and
adults who have been devastated by disaster.
(III) Outline- Program Strategy.
(1) A verified needs assessment is made visually by a designated church
official or appointed representative by Millennium Trust Program Group.
(2) A written request is made from the family wishing to be
adopted and hoping to have their needs met. We are asking the affected families
to keep this needs list to the things that they truly need and not things they
are wishing for that they never had. This list will usually encompass items lost
in the hurricane that they cannot financially replace or will not be able to
replace in the future. Rest assured that this listing of needs will be
coordinated by the adopting families.
(3) A finalized request document will be made that includes name,
address and other vitals, a picture of the adoption requesting family, a short
bio of the person(s) involved along with a worded summary of how Hurricane
Katrina affected them. Last but not least, a defined list of needs for that
particular adoption requesting family.
(4) A coordinated contact is made to the end-organized receiving
station in one of eight areas, namely Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina,
Pennsylvania, Illinois, Arkansas, Alabama, New Mexico and any other states or
cities in the future.
(5) A contact person(s) in that receiving station will coordinate
the passing out of request to eager and caring "angels" who will
give them their contact information to be used as a cross reference for others
in other parts of the country to be committed to this one family's welfare.
There will be a 5 to 1 ratio of five adopting families to one family who needs
adoption. This will relieve the burdens of the assisting families by each one
being responsible for only a portion of the receiving family's need. All five
families will have the ability to coordinate their efforts for the end family by
working closely together via phone and email and will ultimately be in direct
contact with the blemished and affected family. This ensures the needs being met
directly, that the needs are verified and are not being slowed down by
committees, agencies or rules. The injured party is now in touch with at least
five caring families who are willing to met the needs that this family has been
verified to have. No fuss, no delays, and no lines, all that we say we have will
be given directly to the family in need. Shipping will occur between adopter and
adoptee or the Guardian Angel Adoption Program respectively.
